A quick overview of the importance of Facebook Lists as they pertain to the real estate/lending industry. Use your profile to build relationships because they do not happen on your pages!

Whenever I present to or train a room of agents and lenders, I always ask this question - Would you say building relationships is critical to your success? The answer is always a unanimous YES! Then why not use the largest relationship building tool in history, Facebook, to do just that? In the world of real estate, relationships occur on the profile, not on business pages...
AND THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU!
With less than 5% of Facebook users creating their own customer lists, odds are you do not have them. About a year ago, Facebook created "Smart Lists". It has become one of my favorite oxymorons. They are not smart. You must create your own custom lists. When you place a friend on a custom list or lists, they are never notified. This is not always true with the Facebook smart lists. So get started on your lists right away and move into the top 5% on Facebook!
FACEBOOK LISTS ALLOW YOU TO MONITOR PROSPECTS
With custom lists, you can target a particular list or lists when you post. For example, you had a great time in Vegas over the weekend and you want to post some of those pictures. Rather than post to all friends, and potentially clients, simply use the Facebook inline audience selector and send the photos just to the people/lists that need to see them. The same applies to real estate/industry specific posts. Target those post to the appropriate lists and your close friends and family will thank you.
AND JUST LOOK AT POSTS THAT MATTER MOST TO YOU
With lists, simply click on the desired list and your newsfeed will filter to posts only from the friends on the selected list. This is critical as you grow your Facebook network. For business, don't you want to know what your best past clients are up to? This gives you the opportunity to interact and engage, when appropriate. Staying top of mind is crucial for agents and lenders.
BUT YOU MUST TAKE THE TIME TO SET UP
Implementation takes a little time. If you have over 500 friends, plan on a couple hours to get your custom lists set up and populated. After the initial set-up, it is easy to keep your lists in order. Whenever you send or receive a friend request, you have the ability to add the new friend immediately to a list or lists. Yes, you can have a friend in multiple lists. And no, they do not receive multiple posts if they are in multiple lists.
All you need to do is search YouTube with the phrase "How do I set up custom friend lists on Facebook" and you will be overwhelmed by the number of videos and screencasts available. You may even find our series!
