The picture tells a story... but what story does it tell?

Does it tell the same story to everyone?

Does background knowledge and experience play into what story is told by this image?

Scribble My Story

Draw a crowd with interactive story telling apps!
Paper Based storytelling has long been our only means of allowing our students to get their ideas out.

Digital StoryTelling gives us something more.
Authors become illustrators, storytellers, visionaries.

Draw a Crowd with the Scribble My Story app by Scribble Press.

1st graders start asking... Can we write another story?!?

WOW!

Why Use Scribble Press?

Document, Assess, Reflect, Share, Collaborate.. & more!
Document - RTI, Summative Assessment, Sharing with upcoming teachers valuable work samples, differentiation within story types and more.

Story Wheel

Where storytelling comes to life in words and images!
Story wheel is the ultimate in digital storytelling and collaboration.

Build upon the elements of a story. Record each piece a a team or individual, and see the understanding of story elements come to life.

ToonTastic Collaboration

Changes the way they see the creative writing process.
Toontastic App -

This is one of my favorite images ever. The story it tells is of 6 year olds collaborating and sharing ideas as they create.

Just imagine what conversation was happening here.

Also note.. never in a moment of question about the app did either child interrupt the small group the teacher was leading... I bet you know why!

Story Bird

Web Based.. The Story on this one sells it all!
One day in my last year of teaching, Story Bird and one student showed me how important this means of communicating and storytelling just is.

That story is one I love to share, as chances are we all have a kid or two that could make us see this type of tool a little differently.

Keep your eyes peeled for those kids this year!

Voice Thread

Pictures can't even begin to say what happens here!
The image is one thing... what happened this day was another...

Can we write another story?!?
Can I try again, and do my best this time?
Can I listen to it again?

Student reflection, excitement, and determination.

Imagine the Possibilites

Using apps for digital documenting and storytelling!
Using 30 Hands App -

Picture Walks - YES they are MOBILE devices, so let them be mobile.

What story comes from those images?

Putting audio to images opens student eyes to what stories lie within their environments around them.

When student start to see a story everywhere they look... Life becomes a story...

Mobile Apps Make for Great Storytelling too!

Blurb Mobile - Show, Share, Collaborate
Using Blurb Mobile, Students work samples can come to life...

Let stories not just be ones we keep as treasures in our room. Share them ... parents, staff, community. Why would we not show our students a global audience?
