Words From My Father

Published on Nov 21, 2015

My 87 year old father is amazing! Here are some of his own words taken from memories he wrote in "A Grandfather's Memory Book."

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WORDS FROM MY FATHER

JOHN FREDERICK EVANS

I HAD TWO GREAT DESIRES AS A CHILD

TO FLY, AND TO MAKE MYSELF INVISIBLE.

I ALWAYS WANTED A PONY

BUT THAT WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION. WE LIVED IN THE HEART OF THE CITY.

I FELT GOOD ABOUT MY FATHER

LOVING ME ENOUGH TO NAME ME AFTER HIM.

MY MOTHER

WAS JUST ABOUT AS PERFECT AS A MOTHER COULD BE

I SUPPOSE I INHERITED THE TWINKLE IN MY MOTHER'S EYE

AND THE DESIRE OF MY FATHER TO DO A THING WELL, OR NOT AT ALL

WHEN I WAS YOUNG

GAS WAS 15 CENTS A GALLON

THE BIGGEST FISH I EVER CAUGHT

WEIGHED 14 LBS. AND I CAUGHT IT WITH A PITCHFORK

I WAS DRAFTED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL

I JOINED THE MACHINE GUN SQUAD OF COMPANY I OF THE 3RD INFANTRY DIVISION

MY HARDEST GOAL TO ACHIEVE

WAS TO GET OUT OF THE WAR IN ONE PIECE

SINCE I WAS DRAFTED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL

I HAD TO RETURN TO HIGH SCHOOL FOR A YEAR AFTER THE WAR

PAT KNEW DURING OUR FIRST DATE

THAT I WAS THE ONE SHE WAS GOING TO MARRY

SHE WAS THE SWEETEST

MOST VIRTUOUS, HONEST, INTELLIGENT GIRL I EVER MET

I LOVE THEM AND EXPECT TO LIVE

IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD WITH THEM IN THE ETERNITIES TO COME
