Screening Stats

  • 2006: 61% sought colorectal screenings
  • 2010: 75-80% W 40–74 had mammogram last 2yrs

Why Don't People Get Screened?

  • Unnecessary tests?
  • Can't afford tests or treatment?
  • Conversion rate = difficult to measure
  • Regional/cultural/gender/age differences?

Champion et al 2006

  • Purpose - Efficacy of PC vs. Video vs. Pamphlet
  • Method - What exactly was "tailored" and how?
  • Results - PC resulted in [best] adherence rate (40%)
  • Conclusions - Tailored approaches more effective?

Take-homes

  • Cancer can be stopped via proactive screening
  • Screening behavior, not so simple...
  • Culturally-tailored - may enhance efficacy
  • Overall conversion rate appears to be low
  • Tech-based "enforcers" are necessary
