A hurricane is a storm of violent wind. It's a type of tropical cyclone, a low pressure system that generally forms in the tropics. This cyclone is accompanied by a strong, heavy thunderstorm. A counterclockwise circulation of winds near the earths surface

ALL ABOUT HURRICANES

  • Hurricanes produce winds of 119 kilometers per hour( 74mph) or higher, that fasted than a cheetah!
  • Another way to think of a hurricane is as a large heat engine
  • In developing tropical cyclones, strong thunderstorms can occur
  • Hurricanes form over ocean waters, sometimes will strike land
  • A wall of ocean water will be pushed ashore when it had reached land

HOW DO HURRICANES FORM?

  • There are three things that must happen for a hurricane to be born
  • First, the ocean waters must be warm enough at the surface to put enough heat and moisture into the overlaying atmosphere to provide the potential fuel for the thermodynamic engine that a hurricane becomes
  • Second, moisture from sea water evaporation must combine with that heat and energy to form the powerful engine needed to propel a hurricane
  • Third, a wind pattern must be near the ocean surface to spirals air inward
  • Bands of thunderstorms form, allowing the air to warm further and rise higher into the atmosphere

CONTINUING...HOW DO HURRICANES FORM

  • If the winds at these higher levels are relatively light, thus structure can remain intact and grow stronger
  • After all of these steps, is when hurricanes start to began to take place

WHY ARE HURRICANES DANGEROUS

  • Hurricanes are one of the most dangerous kinds of storms
  • They result in heavy rain, strong winds that can sweep about anything away or off the ground
  • Hurricanes will sweep away humans, any type of buildings and livestock
  • They cause inland flooding, marine hazards and tornadoes
  • All of those combined will cause widespread destruction and a huge amount of lost lives
