DEMOGRAPHICS ABOUT URANUS.

  • Uranus is the 3rd Gas Giant.
  • Uranus's mass is 8.683x10^25.
  • It's the 4th most massive planet and the 3rd largest.
  • Uranus is also 51,120 km in diameter.
  • Uranus is 4.5 billion years old.

MORE DEMOGRAPHICS

  • Uranus has 2 sets of rings: inner & outer.
  • Uranus rotates on it side: 97.86 degree inclination.
  • Max surface temp: 58 degrees Celsius
  • Min surface temp: -88 degrees Celsius
  • Surface area: 8.083 billion km^2

ATMOSPHERIC COMPOSITION

  • Atmosphere: 82.5% hydrogen, 15.2% helium, and 2.3% methane.
  • Composition: 25% rock, 60-70% ice, and 5-15% hydrogen & helium.
  • Internal structure: mantle of water, ammonia, and methane gases.
  • Uranus doesn't really have a surface: it's made of ice and gas.

PLANETARY COMPOSITION

SO, WHY IS URANUS BLUE?

  • The methane in the upper atmosphere is at fault.
  • Sunlight holds all colors of the spectrum.
  • When light hits Uranus, the red light is absorbed,
  • But the blue/green light is reflected.
The methane in the atmosphere absorbs the red light of the sun, and the blue is reflected, thus making the planet appear blue.

URANUS HAS MANY MOONS

  • It has 27 to be exact.
  • The 5 main ones are as follows:
  • Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon.
  • Uranus' satellite system is the least massive of GG's.
  • The moons are roughly 50% ice and 50% rock.

HOW DO URANUS AND EARTH COMPARE?

  • Uranus is 63.1 times the size of Earth in volume.
  • Uranus's mass is 8.68x10^25 kg.
  • Earth's mass is 5.9737x10^24.
  • Uranus' gravity is 8.43 m/s^2.
  • Earth's gravity is 9.766 m/s^2.

HOW DOES URANUS COMPARE TO eARTH?

HOW DO URANUS AND EARTH COMPARE?

  • Uranus' revolution takes 84.02 Earth years.
  • Earth's revolution takes 1 Earth year.
  • Uranus' rotation takes 17 hours and 14 minutes.
  • BUTT, different parts of Uranus rotate at different speeds.
  • Earth's rotation takes 24 hours.

PUT IT INTO PERSPECTIVE.

LIFE ON URANUS?

  • Sadly, no.
  • Uranus and its moons are all over 50% ice.
  • Also, Uranus doesn't have a definable surface.
  • Uranus is extremely cold, too.
  • No form of energy either.

MORE ABOUT URANUS.

  • 1st planet discovered w/ telescope; 1781.
  • William Herschel tried to name Uranus after King George III.
  • He came up with Georgian Sidus.
  • He wasn't a very creative suck up.
  • Only spacecraft to visit Uranus is Voyager 2 in 1986.

URANUS JOKES!

  • What do the starship enterprise and toilet paper have in common?
  • They both circle Uranus and wipe out Klingons!
  • I saw Uranus through my telescope.
  • I made a scale model of Uranus in 3rd grade.
  • It was too big for the classroom.
