• The literacy rate is only 28% and only 9 years in school
• The GDP per capita is only $800
• Yes the four major ethnic groups are Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, and the largest being the Pashtuns

• The Taliban is known to kill and massacre the Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks.
• 35% of the people in Afghanistan are unemployed and 36% of the people live below the national poverty line
• 25% of children are put into child labor. The infant mortality rate is 117.23 deaths/1,000 births
• Another conflict in this country's history is the Russian invasion of Afghanistan
• The Soviet war in Afghanistan lasted nine years from December 1979 to February 1989.

CONFLICT

• The main conflict in Afghanistan is the Afghanistan war.
• This conflict is caused by terrorist groups such as the Taliban and al-Qaeda
• From 1996-2001 the Taliban was in control of the Afghanistan government.
• On September 11,2001 the Taliban was overthrown by an American led invasion
• This invasion occurred almost immediately after the Terrorist attacks on the twin towers

• Pull troops out of Afghanastan.

PHASE 3

• Have UN meeting with new Afghan leader in hopes of peace.
