PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHAT THEY DO

  • They usually perform in front of large audiences in plays, movies and tv shows
  • They also have to sometimes help out the backstage crew to set the stage up

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • They often have to have another job due to it not being a full time job
  • Movie actors and tv actors dangers are usually working in bad weather conditions and wearing uncomfortable clothing
  • Their stress level can be high because they have to try to memorize their lines and try to get parts in auditions
  • Their work hours depend on how huge their show is it can range from a day to several months

EDUCATION

  • You need a high school diploma or equilavent you also could recieve your bachelors degree
  • Licenses aren't necessary
  • You have to be creative, have good memorization skills, good stamina and good speaking and reading skills
  • It takes many years of training to become a really good actor and you need some experience on stage to become one
  • Some actors can continue on to become producers or directors

SUNY NEW PALTZ

  • Tution in state is 5,870 and out of state is 15,320
  • You need 4 english classes and social studies classes, you need 3 science classes and math classes and 2-4 years of foreign language
  • You need the sat or act, good grades, an essay and 1 letter of recommendation you also need a portfolio
  • You need a 1080-1230 on the sat

SUNY PURCHASE

  • In state is 7,573 and out of state is 17,923
  • The classes you need are the same as suny new paltz
  • You need a portfolio, an audition, an interview, personal essay and transcript
  • You need a 500/610 and a 480/570 for the sat

  • Annual salary is 51,927
  • The top 10% is 73,847 and the lower 10% is 34,374
  • They don't have benefits due to them only performing a certain amount of time for a part time job

JOB OUTLOOK

  • The job is projected to grow slowly from 4 % in 2012 -2022
  • The growth will be lower for those in performing arts company than those in film
  • They are using online television and video on demand methods which gurantees more jobs in the future but it isnt promised to be successful
  • Small and medium size theatres are going to have less funding
  • Actors face tough competition

WILDLIFE THEATRE ACTOR

  • There isn't a starting salary but they have to work the weekends through may 25- june 30 and the months of july and august
  • Bronx zoo bronx new york
  • Informal education with children's theatre and musuem theatre you also need acting experience
  • You must like kids, like animals , prior theatre experience, good communication skills, be able to lift 50 lbs and be highly dependable and reliable.
  • You usually entertain a crowd for certain periods of time

DIRECTOR/ PRODUCER

  • Salary 71,350
  • You need a bachelors degree
  • They work on major motion pictures and write scripts that entertain people

WHY ACTING

  • It entertains me and I wouldn't mind getting paid to be someone different
  • I would like to entertain people to get their minds into a different atmosphere instead of their real life situations
