CAUSES

  • Natural cause are volcanos and decaying vegetation
  • Pollutants from factories and cities mix with rain water in the clouds
  • Polluted water evaporates into clouds and falls as rain water

EFFECTS

  • Acidification of lakes and streams
  • Damages tall trees and buildings/structures
  • Chemicals in acid rain harm public health
  • It is most prevalent in Northeastern U.S., Scandanavia, Germany, and Canada

HOW TO REDUCE ACID RAIN

  • Turn off electrical equipment when it's not being used
  • buy equipment that uses less electricity
  • Try to limit the use of air conditioning
  • To help cut down on air pollution from cars, you can carpool or take public transportation.

WHAT IS BEING DONE

  • People are starting to use alternative energy sources
  • They include nuclear power, hydropower, wind energy, geothermal energy, and solar energy.
  • There are also alternative energies, such as natural gas, batteries, and fuel cells, available to power automobiles
  • Nuclear power, hydropower, and coal are the cheapest forms of energy today
